The Gospel of Jesus Christ

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

In our last post we talked about who Jesus Christ is, and how he was his own separate  being, distinct from the Father. Today we will be talking more about the Ministry and Gospel of Jesus Christ, what it entails, and what it means to Latter-Day Saints. While this one will not go into the doctrine aspects of it, it will mainly be what we as Latter-Day Saints base our religion on.
The foundation for the Latter-Day Saints is based of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which contains that Salvation can be obtained by having faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement, Repentance, Baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End.1 I, personally like to views these as being one connected chain, and I like to think of it like hopping on a train or a bus. When you start your journey to follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ, (The Train), we get on at the very first stop which is Faith. Choosing to follow this path is our first fruits of faith that we bring forth, and so it is the first station where we start our journey.
Having Faith in Jesus Christ means we are willing to repent. Repentance is usually associated with Confession, where we just admit our very serious sin; which also bring about a sense of shame. I find this very sad, because for me, I have found that Repentance is not merely a concept of confession, penalty, and council, but a process where the Lord allows us to become one, at our own pace and willingness, with him. Showing enough faith to arrive at our second station, fuels us, and qualifies us for our next station.
Exercising our Faith in Jesus Christ to repent and follow his example to the waters of Baptism. By doing so in our journey we make a promise with Heavenly Father I can remember the day when I entered into the waters of Baptism, being very excited to do so and show to Heavenly Father how ready I was to become a member of his church. This is one of the most exciting stop on our journey because we’ve been traveling a long way to receive a cleansing of our sins and qualify to enter into the presence of Heavenly Father.
Then, shortly after, we arrive at a stop of purification. Being Baptized allows us to be qualified for the Gift of The Holy Ghost, the Third Member of the Godhead. With this we receive his companionship as long as we remain worthy of it, in relation to the analogy I have been drawing out, it’s like he joins us on the train to lead, guide, and teach us.
So where does one’s journey end on the Gospel of Jesus Christ? The answer is simple: It does not, for the work of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is to bring about immortality and eternal life.2 Enduring to the End is the final principle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that means continuing to go through the stops, continuing to have Faith in Jesus Christ, daily repentance, renewing our covenants, and continuing to Endure to The End.
